Georgetown Fire Department Asks Residents to Help Clear Hydrants Following Storm

March 15, 2018 by Jessica Sacco

Following this week’s snowstorm, Chief Fred Mitchell is asking that residents help the Georgetown Fire Department by clearing snow from fire hydrants near their homes and businesses.

When fire hydrants are buried in the snow, firefighters lose valuable time trying to locate them when they arrive at the scene of a fire. Having a visible and accessible fire hydrant could be the difference in saving a home or a life in the event of a fire.

The Georgetown Fire Department is encouraging residents to perform a valuable act of public service by clearing all snow and ice within 3 feet of the hydrant, as well as a path from the hydrant to the street in order to provide firefighters easy access during emergencies.
