Georgetown Fire Department Visits Penn Brook School to Discuss Fire Safety

GEORGETOWN – Chief Fred Mitchell Jr. is pleased to announce that the Georgetown Fire Department visited the Penn Brook School last week to share safety tips with students.

On Thursday, May 12, firefighters visited with the kindergarten classes at the Penn Brook School to discuss fire safety and prevention. They shared with students what it’s like to be a firefighter, what to do during an emergency and showed them how stop, drop and roll.

To demonstrate how to put on turnout gear, two Georgetown firefighters raced each other to see who could get all of their equipment on first. The department also brought a fire truck with them for students to explore.

“We always enjoy the opportunity to teach our community about fire safety, especially the younger children who are always eager to learn more about firefighting,” Chief Mitchell said. “The students at Penn Brook were attentive and seemed to really enjoy watching firefighters race to get their gear on.”
