GEORGETOWN — Acting Chief Chuck Savage is pleased to announce that Matt McKay has been named as the Georgetown Fire Department’s new Deputy Chief.
Deputy Chief McKay began his new role on Jan. 1.
Deputy Chief McKay is a Georgetown native and graduate of Georgetown High School who joined the department in 2002 and has developed a wide range of experience through his decades as a member of the fire department and working in the private sector.
Deputy Chief McKay also joined the Erie 4 Fire Association in 2002, where he has served in a number of executive roles and committees, including the Standing, Fundraising and Building committees.
Since joining Georgetown Fire, Deputy Chief McKay has earned promotions to the rank of Lieutenant in 2004, and to Captain in 2019. In that time, he developed the department’s adopt-a-hydrant program and facilitated its new recruit program, and has worked to support department administration and staffing.
“Deputy Chief McKay has an outstanding two-decade career with the Georgetown Fire Department and has made many important contributions to department operations, setting a great example for his fellow firefighters,” Acting Chief Savage said. “I know that he will continue to excel in his new leadership role and I congratulate him on this well-deserved promotion.”
In addition to his firefighting duties, Deputy Chief McKay works at HP Hood as a marketing and category development analyst. He previously worked at Valspar Corporation in a variety of areas, including human resources, business development and consumer relations management.
“Through my past jobs, both inside and outside of firefighting, I have learned so much, including the ability to listen, remain calm and ultimately lead a team,” Deputy Chief McKay said. “I am confident that these skills will translate well into my new position as Deputy Chief and I look forward to continuing to serve the town that I grew up in.”
Deputy Chief McKay holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resource management from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He holds numerous firefighting certifications including EMT Basic – MA Certification, ProBoard FF I/II Certification, ProBoard HazMat OLR Certification, Fire Prevention Officer-Basic – MA Certification, CPR/First Aid, Strip Mall Firefighting and more.
