Georgetown Fire and Police Departments Respond After Car Crashes Into Building

GEORGETOWN – Acting Fire Chief Chuck Savage and Police Chief Donald Cudmore report the Georgetown Police and Fire Departments responded after a vehicle crashed into a fitness center Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, Aug. 8, at approximately 2 p.m., Georgetown Fire and Police were dispatched to 56 Central St. for reports of a crash. Upon arrival, first responders located a car that had crashed through the front of Get in Shape for Women.

An initial investigation indicates that the operator, a 90-year-old Boxford man, was attempting to back into a parking space when they struck the building.

The operator and passenger were assisted in exiting the vehicle by police and firefighters and subsequently transported by ambulance to an area hospital for evaluation with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The business was closed at the time of the incident and neighboring businesses were not affected by the crash.

Town building and wiring inspectors were called to the scene and determined the building structurally sound.

Georgetown Fire Engine 2, Car 1 and Ambulance 12 responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Georgetown Police Department.
