Firefighters responded at 9:50 p.m. to 3 Hardy Terrace. Chief Mitchell was first on scene and observed fire in the basement area, which quickly spread to the first floor after the basement windows failed.
Crews knocked down the heavy flames and then made an interior attack to extinguish the fire. However, the house was considered a total loss from the fire. Chief Mitchell estimated damages in excess of $500,000.
Fire crews from Groveland, Newbury, Rowley and Haverhill and the fire chiefs Richard York from Groveland, Douglas Janvrin Jr. from Newbury, Michael Dwyer from West Newbury and Brian Geiger from Boxford all responded to the scene to provide mutual aid assistance.
West Newbury and Boxford fire crews also provided station coverage to Georgetown during the incident. The State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene.
All residents safely exited the home prior to the arrival of firefighters, and no one was injured. The displaced family is reportedly staying with relatives.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation. A resident reported to officials that he heard a pop in an electrical socket and that he tried to put the flames out with water but was unsuccessful.
The fire investigation is just beginning, but in all situations, Chief Mitchell strong urges all residents to dial 911 the moment that they notice an emergency situation.
