GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. is pleased to announce that the Georgetown Fire Department will once again escort Santa to every street in town this weekend as part of its 19th annual effort to support for Toys for Tots.

Sunday, Dec. 9, beginning at 11 a.m.

WHAT:
Each year, the Georgetown firefighters team up with Santa, himself to visit every street in town in an effort to collect new, unwrapped toys for children ranging from infants to age 16 from Georgetown’s generous residents.
The fire department has been collecting toys to donate to The Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program since 2000.
Those who miss the Santa tour can drop off toys at the police or fire station, 47 Central St. anytime before the end of the day on Dec. 14.
This year’s annual tour is being conducted in memory of two very special people in Georgetown who support the Santa Tour efforts since the very beginning: Sams Transportation Co-Owner Mike Ricker and one of the department’s longtime “Santa” lookalikes David Durkee.
“Every man and woman on the Georgetown Fire Department looks forward to the Santa Tour each year, and this year we are working extra hard in honor of two people who truly helped establish this program as a Georgetown tradition,” said Deputy Fire Chief Rusty Ricker. “I challenge all residents to come together to exceed our toy totals form years past in honor of these two wonderful men.”
The goal this year is to beat last year’s total of approximately 3,000 toys collected for the Toys for Tots program.
